To obey means to humble yourself to the authority of another. ‘Obey’ and ‘authority’ can come across as strong overbearing words, but in the proper context of good intention and godly standards,&nbsp;they have a deeper meaning and strength.&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">It is a gift, in fact, to teach a child that there is always more to learn, and that there are people out there who can answer&nbsp;questions and&nbsp;have knowledge and experience to impart.&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">A child or young person who learns to humble themselves early on will be open to learning throughout their life;&nbsp;they will know when to ask for help, and they will&nbsp;have the strength of character to put aside their own pride&nbsp;in order to&nbsp;submit to the experience of another.&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Essentially, obedience is a means to strengthen and grow characteristics in a child that will benefit them way into adult life.&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">It&nbsp;has to&nbsp;be said, obedience and wisdom&nbsp;go&nbsp;hand in hand. Just as much as obeying well-intentioned&nbsp;and godly people will bring reward, choosing to follow and obey sin and ungodliness has the opposite effect.&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">The truth is, we will always be in submission to something (whether it feels like it or not). Throughout our lives we must submit to parents, educators, leaders, evidence, the laws of the land, ideals, and practices. However, we do have the choice.&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">In the Bible, God has given us a standard and a choice. Wisdom is gained by using the Bible as a tool to measure what is right and wrong, what is godly and what is ungodly.&nbsp;THROUGH wisdom we can learn to discern who or what we should submit to. Ultimately, it is this, submit to God and godliness, and reject sin and sinfulness.&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">By&nbsp;informing&nbsp;children about the authority and love of God, we are teaching them to submit&nbsp;to&nbsp;and obey&nbsp;Someone who will NEVER let them down&nbsp;and&nbsp;Someone who will teach them and lead them in righteousness and love.&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Parents fail, laws fail, educators and leaders fail, but<span style="font-weight:700;"> God never fails</span>.&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">By learning about obedience through the Bible,&nbsp;a child is learning about a characteristic that is recommended by a loving, all-encompassing, infinite God. When obedience is learned through the eyes of God, it becomes a pathway to success and true joy, rather than a tool that is used to force you to submit to the whims and fancies of the powerful.&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:500;">In conclusion, here&nbsp;are some verses to encourage you as you teach your children about&nbsp;the rewards and benefits of&nbsp;godly obedience:&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. Can you believe it is already March? 2020 forced everyone to slow down,&nbsp;but this year feels like the days are just passing by so quickly! Despite lockdowns, lives seem busier than ever. There are so many things going on—the world events, juggling your schedule with work and family under the same roof, uncertainties in the current economic state, new variants of the virus, and the list can go on and on. This is the time we must seek peace intently in every moment. Not just for our own well-being but also for us to bring peace and light in this chaotic world.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">In&nbsp;Luke 10:38-42,&nbsp;the story of Martha and Mary gives&nbsp;us a lesson about seeking peace by choosing our priorities.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">Now as they went on their way, Jesus&nbsp;entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” </span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary.&nbsp;Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Often, we can relate to Martha. She was so distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. This did not really make her bad,&nbsp;because she just wanted to be a great host. She just wanted the best, at least what she thought&nbsp;was&nbsp;the best, but Jesus preferred otherwise.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Our minds can be&nbsp;so caught up with all the things that need to be done. We think about our children’s schoolwork, our own work, our daily meal, the&nbsp;Covid&nbsp;situation, our health, our loved ones’ well-being, our future and so on.&nbsp; And those are&nbsp;important—but Jesus said in Luke 10:41:</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary.&nbsp;Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">In the Passion&nbsp;Translation&nbsp;(TPT), it says:&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">The Lord answered her, “Martha, my beloved Martha. Why are you upset and troubled, pulled away by all these many distractions? Are they really that important?&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;font-weight:bold;">Mary&nbsp;has discovered the one thing most important by choosing to sit at my feet. She is undistracted, and I won’t take this privilege from her.”</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span><br></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Jesus called Martha twice. That is significant because He was calling to her attention. What if Jesus just wanted Martha to open the door to let Him in? And like Martha, what if Jesus is calling you today&nbsp;just&nbsp;to pause for a minute and just sit by His feet? When you sit by Jesus’ feet, peace comes—the peace that surpasses all understanding. He is the Prince of Peace after all&nbsp;(Isaiah 9:6).&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.&nbsp; And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">Philippians 4:6-7&nbsp;</span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">You keep him in perfect peace&nbsp;whose mind is stayed on you,&nbsp;because he trusts in you. -&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">Isaiah 26:3&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">ACTION POINTS TO TAKE</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">1.Pause and be still.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><a href="https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Exodus-14-14/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><span style="font-size:11pt;color:rgb(84, 104, 110);">Exodus 14:14</span></a><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp; (KJV) : The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Are you overwhelmed with everything that is&nbsp;on&nbsp;your plate?&nbsp;Be&nbsp;encouraged&nbsp;to take a minute. He holds the whole world in&nbsp; His hands, and He is with you in every step of the way. Remember His goodness and promises in your life,&nbsp;and let your hearts be filled with gratitude.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">When you take gratitude like your 5-a-day, everything gets better! It may not necessarily change your situation, but gratitude shifts your focus. You can focus&nbsp;on&nbsp;the things God has blessed you with and not so much on the things that are going on around you. You&nbsp;acknowledge&nbsp;that God,&nbsp;Who&nbsp;is great and mighty, is for you!&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">3.Assess what you have been feeding your soul.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">If you are feeling drained, maybe it is time to assess what you&nbsp;have&nbsp;been feeding your soul.&nbsp; Are you feeding it with all the news today or His word? It is so easy to scroll through social media and watch all the news. It is good to be informed,&nbsp;but if that is what you do all the time, you might end up feeling drained. We must guard our peace through Christ Jesus and that is&nbsp;done&nbsp;by spending time with Him. Whether it is by listening to a podcast while going for a walk, spending time in prayer when you wake up, reading a Bible story with your children, or just meditating&nbsp;on&nbsp;a verse in your&nbsp;Bible app during your lunch break, do it!&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">John 14:27 (NLT): I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.&nbsp; So&nbsp;don’t be troubled or afraid.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">To receive God’s gift—peace of mind and heart, we must take responsibility and make room for Him every day. And when we do, fear leaves, and peace comes.&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">4.Choose to rest.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">When we hear the word ‘rest’, we usually think, “I would love to, but I don’t have the time” or it could be that we have a mindset of ‘rest is for the weak’. Whatever you&nbsp;think about this, rest is important! We must find pockets of rest during the week and not wait for Saturday or Sunday to come before we decide to rest.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Rest might look different to everyone. Some might find rest when they sleep, some go for a run, some spend intentional time with loved ones, some bake… whatever rest looks like for you, take it.&nbsp; This is&nbsp;good for you. Just take note, the rest that sustains you long&nbsp;term is deeper than these&nbsp;activities. You find that rest in God.&nbsp;</span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Psalm 23: 1-3 (NLT):</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="text-align:left;font-size:11pt;">The Lord is my shepherd;</span><span style="text-align:left;font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span><span style="text-align:left;font-size:11pt;">I have all that I need.&nbsp;</span><br></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p><span style="font-style:italic;font-size:11pt;"></span></p><div style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">He lets me rest in green meadows;&nbsp;he leads me beside peaceful streams.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></div><span style="font-size:11pt;"><div style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">He renews my strength.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">He guides me along right paths, bringing&nbsp;honor&nbsp;to his name.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></div></span><p></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">When we let the peace of God come in our lives, rest follows. We are welcome to rest in Him. Instead of worry and doubt, there is rest. Instead of chaos, there is rest. Choose to rest.&nbsp;</span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">5.Experience&nbsp;PEACE.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Let go of your worries now and experience peace.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV): For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Cling to the promises of God and keep trusting.&nbsp; His thoughts toward you are of peace and not of evil, a hope and a future.&nbsp; He is faithful&nbsp;to do what&nbsp; He has&nbsp;promised!&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:10px;"><span style="font-style:italic;">Unless otherwise indicated, all&nbsp;Scripture quotations are from&nbsp; The&nbsp;ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), copyright © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. <div><ul><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">In childhood, committing to tidying your room may make you think that you are missing out on play time.&nbsp;</span></p></li></ul></div>
</div><div><div><ul style="font-size:12px;"><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">In your youth, committing time to studies may make you feel like you will miss out on being with friends or keeping up with the latest trend.&nbsp;</span></p></li><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">In your adulthood, committing to work, or family, may make you feel like you are sacrificing one for the other.&nbsp;</span></p></li></ul><div style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:14.6667px;"><br></span></div>
</div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">You get the point.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
</div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-size:16px;">It’s not black and white</span>.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">To a degree it’s true, Commitment = Sacrifice, but it’s not as black and white as that. You see, commitment is when you prioritise the thing that you know will be of&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">more</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;lasting importance in the long run.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Think back to a time when you </span><span style="font-size:14.6667px;">prioritised</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;your studies over going out with your friends. In the moment it may have felt like a loss, like you were missing out on some fun, but in the long run you were able to pass a test that you may have failed and move forward in your education.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">This is not to say you should ALWAYS prioritise work over fun. There is a time for everything,&nbsp;and there is a place for being committed to your social life as well (in fact, this is highly recommended).&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:16px;font-weight:bold;">Commit to the RIGHT things.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
</div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">The point is, you&nbsp;have to&nbsp;make sure that you are committed to the RIGHT things at the RIGHT time.&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">It’s certain that every one of you reading this can think of a time when you chose to commit to the wrong thing. Now, looking back, you regret the decisions you made because it inconvenienced your bigger picture in the future.&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:16px;font-weight:bold;">Wisdom is our friend.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Wisdom is our friend during the times when we face decisions about what we prioritise.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p></p><div style="text-align:justify;"><div><span style="font-style:italic;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">“My son, eat honey, for it is good,&nbsp;and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></span><span style="font-size:11pt;"><span style="font-style:italic;">Know that wisdom is such to your soul;&nbsp;if you find it, there will be a future,&nbsp;and your hope will not be cut off.”</span> – <span style="font-weight:500;">Proverbs 24: 13-14&nbsp;</span></span></div>
</div><p></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Wisdom is like a pair of glasses—when you equip it, everything becomes clearer. You get a bigger a view of the situation.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">When it’s time to make those life decisions, look at your choices through the lens of wisdom.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Ask yourself questions like:&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><div><ul><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Which of these choices&nbsp;have&nbsp;the most&nbsp;benefit?&nbsp;</span></p></li><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Which of these choices are best in serving the kingdom of&nbsp;God?*&nbsp;</span></p></li><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Which of these choices will build me and my family up?&nbsp;</span></p></li><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Which of these choices is the kindest?&nbsp;</span></p></li></ul><div style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:14.6667px;"><br></span></div>
</div><div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">*If you have already made a commitment to Christ,&nbsp;then you need to start making choices that show that commitment.&nbsp;</span></p></div>
</div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Once you have the answers to your questions, make your choice.&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-style:italic;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;"></span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:16px;font-weight:bold;">What is being committed anyway?</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
</div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-style:italic;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">Committed</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;adj.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">Pledged or bound to a certain course, dedicated.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Sounds massive,&nbsp;doesn’t it?&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">And sometimes it is. Marriage for example…HUGE COMMITMENT.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">Other times the commitment is smaller, but still important–like making sure that you get through that pile of washing so that you have clean clothes to wear next week.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">When you make a commitment,&nbsp;you are saying, ‘I’m going to see this through to the end.’&nbsp; And whether that is to the end of your life, like marriage, or the end of the week, like your washing, it’s important!&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">You’ve made this commitment because, through wisdom, you have decided it is valuable in your life. Therefore, it is essential that you see it through to the end. Complete the mission you have set for&nbsp;yourself and&nbsp;reap the rewards!&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:16px;font-weight:bold;">Make a record of your reasons.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
</div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">If things start getting difficult, it’s easy to lose sight of why we made commitments in the first place.&nbsp; This is why&nbsp;it’s good to make an account of your reasons when you make the decision to commit to something.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;font-weight:bold;">For example:</span><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">You&nbsp;have&nbsp;committed to walking at least half an hour every day because you have learned that moving your body regularly is key to a healthy lifestyle and mental wellbeing, especially during this pandemic when you are at home and sedentary for most of the day.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">However, it’s been raining the whole week! You don’t feel like going for walks in the rain. How do you stay committed?</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;">First of all, look back to your reasons for making this decision. Oh yeah, ‘healthy lifestyle &amp; mental wellbeing’. Then, find ways to get round the difficulty–Get your wellies and raincoat on, or do some jogging on the spot or use a skipping rope in the home.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-style:italic;"></span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:16px;font-weight:bold;">Reap the rewards!</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
</div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">At the end of the day, we make commitments because we think something good will come from them. In the last example, the reward was good health. In marriage,&nbsp;the reward is a partner for life and children, and extended family. Every commitment has an outcome,&nbsp;and if we stay committed that outcome is often VERY rewarding.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">The commitment = the reward:</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><div><ul><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Committed to your friends and family =&nbsp;The trust and respect of your friends and family&nbsp;</span></p></li><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Committed to your job =&nbsp;Great work ethic, quality work output&nbsp;</span></p></li><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Committed to your education = A strong foundation for&nbsp;future prospects&nbsp;</span></p></li><li style="margin-left:24px;font-size:11pt;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Committed to the Lord =&nbsp;The blessing of God on your life&nbsp;</span></p></li></ul></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
</div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Today we are all facing the decision to commit to something. Let’s do ourselves a favour and look at our choices through the lens of wisdom, make our commitments&nbsp;(big or small),&nbsp;and then see them through to the end.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Take some time when you&nbsp;can,&nbsp;and&nbsp;write down the reasons why you have made certain commitments. Put them in a place where you can see them,&nbsp;and then,&nbsp;if you ever feel like you’ve made a mistake or feel like giving up, read your reasons and be inspired to keep going!&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:700;font-style:italic;">You can do this!&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:16px;font-weight:bold;">Encouragement from the&nbsp;Scriptures:</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
</div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><span style="font-style:italic;">“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”</span>&nbsp;– <span style="font-weight:500;">Galatians 6:9</span>&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><span style="font-style:italic;">“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”</span>&nbsp;– <span style="font-weight:500;">Proverbs 16:3</span>&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><span style="font-style:italic;">“But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.”</span> -- <span style="font-weight:500;">James 5:12&nbsp;</span></span></p></div>
<div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<p style="font-size:12px;"><span style="color:inherit;"></span></p><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Do you have any other&nbsp;Scriptures to share or advice about how to stay committed? <div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">We are exposed to so many confusing and frustrating things on social media and through the news.&nbsp; It’s&nbsp;so&nbsp;easy for our attention to dwell on the melting pot of current events&nbsp;and be overwhelmed with thoughts like,&nbsp;“I need to keep up to date with this, I NEED to have answers for everything that is going on, I NEED to find a way out of this situation.”&nbsp;&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">The truth is&nbsp;the only thing you do <span style="font-style:italic;font-weight:700;">NEED</span> to focus on is Jesus.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Jesus said, <span style="font-style:italic;">“I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE.”</span>&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">He is literally telling us that He is an&nbsp;all-in-one&nbsp;solution.&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">So, how&nbsp;do we&nbsp;focus on Jesus?</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Well,&nbsp;a big&nbsp;reason why we easily focus on the mainstream&nbsp;‘Debbie&nbsp;Downers’&nbsp;of the world is because we get blasted with their&nbsp;obnoxious&nbsp;reports and opinions as soon as we pick up our phones and start scrolling.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">So&nbsp;here’s an&nbsp;idea—<span style="font-weight:700;">have a cull on your phone.&nbsp;</span></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Get rid of the apps that tend&nbsp;to take your focus from where it should be (on Jesus). OR do one even better, tweak those apps so that you get blasted with content from creators and&nbsp;trusted&nbsp;sources that are sensitive and honest in how they share news. Follow sites that uphold Biblical principles and that share information that would build your confidence, not knock it down.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">This is not to say you&nbsp;shouldn’t&nbsp;be&nbsp;‘in the know’&nbsp;about current events or whatever else is going on, but you can control how you receive it, and you can control&nbsp;who you hear it from.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">T</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">ry and adjust the way you see the world according to the ways of Jesus, His character, His words, and His example. Try to see Jesus in everything that is going on (kind of like when Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were in the fire&nbsp;and weren’t&nbsp;afraid,&nbsp;because they knew that they weren’t&nbsp;alone).</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">As you begin this year, try not to&nbsp;be distracted by&nbsp;the dumpster fire of current events.&nbsp;Reset your focus&nbsp;to be&nbsp;on Jesus. He is there;&nbsp;sometimes you just&nbsp;have to&nbsp;refocus to see&nbsp;Him.&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;text-align:center;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p><br></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:18pt;font-weight:bold;">Exercise your&nbsp;Trust&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:18pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Once you have committed to focus on Jesus, you need to remember to trust&nbsp;Him.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Our free will enables us to make decisions in this life, and sometimes we&nbsp;don’t&nbsp;make the right ones.&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">Take time,&nbsp;as often as you can,&nbsp;to entrust your decisions to Jesus.&nbsp;Ask&nbsp;him to help you in your decision making,&nbsp;and also&nbsp;trust that if you make&nbsp;wrong choices,&nbsp; He&nbsp;can make things right.</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Actively exercise your trust in Him, so that it becomes second nature.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Trust in Jesus allows positive traits&nbsp;to&nbsp;flow into your heart. It allows you to have joy, even when things are tough. It allows you to have&nbsp;hope,&nbsp;when there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel.&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">If you do not strive to trust in Jesus, you can easily stop focusing on him and fall back into drowning in the mire of doubt and hopelessness that tries to close in around us every day.&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">How can we exercise trust?</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">A great exercise to enhance your trust muscles is to look back and be thankful.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Look back at all the different situations the Lord has brought you through. <span style="font-weight:700;">Gratitude</span> is a powerful tool in conquering anxiety and is a balm for soothing worries. Try and take some time daily (or weekly, or however is best for you) and write down&nbsp;a few things that you are thankful for. Try and do this in the morning as it will help you start the day with a brain that is reminded of the goodness of God in your life.&nbsp; It’s&nbsp;amazing how much&nbsp;of a difference&nbsp;this can make.&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Your trust in Jesus is a guard against ideas and feelings that will try and convince you that there is no hope.&nbsp;Don’t&nbsp;forget to&nbsp;exercise it!&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:18pt;font-weight:bold;">Plan&nbsp;to be like Jesus</span><span style="font-size:18pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">With your focus on Jesus, and a trust that is strong, you can start making plans with confidence.&nbsp;Of course,&nbsp;we like to make practical plans for ourselves at the new year, to push our creativity, grow our&nbsp;businesses, get healthier—all that good stuff—but here is another challenge for you, from us.&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-weight:bold;">The Character Trait Challenge –</span><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">For the past few years, the staff at CEE have sat together and&nbsp;assigned one of the 90&nbsp;Biblical character traits to each month of the year to be our monthly focus.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">If you&nbsp;don’t&nbsp;know what these character traits are, here’s an explanation:&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">ACE has compiled a list of&nbsp;90 character&nbsp;traits that Christ exhibited throughout the Bible. This list&nbsp;a&nbsp;great tool,&nbsp;because it can help us learn more about each individual trait and then figure out how to&nbsp;put it to use in our own lives. Ultimately,&nbsp;as Christians, we want to be like Jesus,&nbsp;so implementing and putting these traits&nbsp;into practice is a step in the right direction!&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div>
<div><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><span style="font-weight:700;">So here is a challenge for you!</span>&nbsp;Using the list of Character traits below (click the button to download), choose a trait for each month this year, try and learn more about the trait,&nbsp;and have a go at putting it into practice throughout the month. Keep a diary of what you think about the character trait, how difficult (or easy) it was for you to implement, and what you learned through the practice of it—How did it make you feel? How did it affect others? What resulted from your actioning of this characteristic?&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p></div>

Now, we all know that often the joys of being together for Christmas go&nbsp;hand-in-hand&nbsp;with some strife. Being in close quarters with family members, trying to cook a 3-course meal with little kids running about, having a never-ending mess to clear up – this is the side of Christmas that really spends a person’s patience. It is very easy to stand&nbsp;in the midst of&nbsp;the chaos and have a verbal meltdown. It is in these moments that generosity&nbsp;has the opportunity to&nbsp;have a&nbsp;‘glow-up’. Instead of allowing floods of angry words flow, we can choose words that will build others up, not tear them down. This doesn’t mean that you&nbsp;have to&nbsp;live&nbsp;in chaos;&nbsp;it just means you don’t need to react in anger to keep&nbsp;the peace. Give your loved ones the gift of kind and peace-keeping words this Christmas.</span>&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><span style="font-style:italic;">You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. -</span>&nbsp;<span style="font-weight:500;">2 Corinthians 9:11</span>&nbsp;(ESV)</span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">&nbsp;</span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><span style="font-size:16px;font-weight:700;">With our strengths/skills:</span>&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;"><span>We all have different abilities and strengths. There is an ever increasing quantity of information and ‘big data’, but an increasing shallowness of understanding in a growing trail of publications<span style="color:inherit;"><span style="font-size:12pt;">—</span></span>hardcopy and digital.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">‘Of the making of books there is no end.’ (Ecclesiastes 12:12) This verse surely foretold the exponential growth we can now see on the internet. Aside from what is being added to the pile, there is the problem of filtering. Godly discretion (noted in Proverbs 2:11) should be deployed to find godly and wholesome content, and yet, never has there been a greater danger of truth being filtered out before we see it! No longer does one see the book-burning of medieval<span style="color:inherit;"><span style="font-size:12pt;">—</span></span>or Nazi<span style="font-size:12pt;color:inherit;text-align:center;">—</span>times, because secular humanist algorithms and search engines do the job without any need for a match! Daniel was warned, ‘At the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.’ (Daniel 12 :4) But such knowledge does not equate to understanding and wisdom. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up (1 Cor 8:1).</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">At the dawn of time Adam and Eve were deceived by the Serpent, whilst the warnings<span style="color:inherit;"><span style="font-size:12pt;">—</span></span>and promises<span style="color:inherit;"><span style="font-size:12pt;">—</span></span>of God were still ringing in their ears. How much more should we be on our guard when distortions, deceptions and the mocking of God’s Word saturate the digital world! The Word of God was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation (Samuel 3:1). How much more so today! The National Viewers and Listeners Association founded by Mary Whitehouse in the 1960s to protect children from perversions on TV is never more needed than today. A small book, written many years ago, entitled ‘Turn Off the Evil’ sums up what is needed. If we want to gain understanding and wisdom, we need discretion to spiritually filter what is being fed into our minds and the minds of our children from this world.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p><span style="color:inherit;"></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:500;">If we want to hear God’s voice, we must listen with unmuffled spiritual ears.</span> And then speak to God with the understanding He has conveyed to us. We love God because He first loved us. And we can be confident that God hears and understands us from the depth of His wisdom and knowledge (Romans 11:33).</p></div>

The other is of a Body with each member belonging to all the others (Romans 12 vs 5) with the Lord Jesus as Head. The common denominator in both is the Lord Jesus. He is the firstborn from the dead. We are born again into new life in Him</span><span style="color:inherit;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">—</span></span><span style="font-size:15px;">note, not new life to sail off into the sunset on our own. There is no Christian life outside the Body of Christ. Any who think they are independent become an anomaly, an unnatural growth which distracts from the beauty of fellowship in the Body of Christ. The wonderful blessing of fellowship is that we share the Lord Jesus in common. By definition, fellowship (Koinonia) is not individualised. &nbsp; The reality of the Body of Christ is that we are ALL growing up into maturity, attaining the full measure of Christ. This takes cooperation. We all have different gifts (Romans 12 vs 6) but the same objective</span><span style="font-size:11pt;color:inherit;text-align:center;">—</span>to bring Glory to God and blessing to the Lord Jesus His Son, and His Body.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:15px;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:15px;">Whatever you do in word or deed, do it as unto the Lord (Colossians 3 vs 23). Once we get the vision that what we are doing is not for ourselves or even for each other, but primarily for Him and for His glory, it raises us up to a higher calling and motivation. The things of earth grow strangely dim in the light of His Glory and Grace. &nbsp; It doesn’t mean therefore that we don’t see needs that there are (and there are many) on earth, but rather that we see them more clearly. We see the priorities with God’s heart and purpose, which is not short-lived or a 'quick fix' for self satisfaction. &nbsp;Get right with God, and you will be right with one another. Be at peace with God and your neighbour. Love God, and love your neighbour as yourself. All these great truths, which were once part of the fabric of our civilisation, seem to have been replaced by 'self-ism'. No longer 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you' but rather 'look after number one’!</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:15px;">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:15px;">On the positive side, it should be said that the current COVID-19 crisis has led to an awareness that something is not quite right with the direction of travel of the modern world. And to be fair, more people are saying good morning when they are out on their social-distancing walks. It may be that there is more time to relax from the pressures of work during lockdown, more opportunity to see God’s Creation and hear the dawn chorus with less cars on the road. Whatever it is, there is certainly a great opportunity for us to rise up and cooperate in a combined testimony to the love and grace and forgiveness of God, not least in the light of the death of George Floyd and it’s aftermath. At a time of great uncertainty and instability, we should individually and collectively point to the stability of life in Christ Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, to every tribe tongue and nation of every generation. We should point to the common highest goal of living for Him. Not the lowest common denominator of trying to avoid confrontation.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:15px;">&nbsp;</span></p><p><span style="color:inherit;font-size:15px;"></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:15px;">The need for repentance, forgiveness and salvation should be addressed by us all and not left to one or two spokespersons. We live in such an atomised and fragmented society that it is not realistic to expect one organisation or dynamic leader to reach every sector of society. We have different callings in different spheres, and we must all be faithful witnesses in the area where the Lord has planted us. How shall they hear unless there is a preacher? We should all be preachers through whatever channel the Lord has given</span><span style="font-size:11pt;color:inherit;text-align:center;">—</span>to our family, friends and neighbours. It doesn’t help when some who bear the name of Christ deny His teachings, but God is judge, and one day He will separate the wheat from the tares. Let’s enjoy being wheat growing up together, planting, watering and waiting for the Lord to bring in the harvest. &nbsp;I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase (1 Corinthians 3 vs 6). And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart (Galatians 6 vs 9). He who continually goes forth weeping, Bearing seed for sowing, Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, Bringing his sheaves with him (Psalm 126 vs 6).</p></div>

In fact, there is probably not one person who can say that they rely entirely on themselves to get through life. The truth is, we all depend on each other to get things done at one level or another.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:700;">Now, let’s have a little exercise.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Take some time to let the below statement settle in your mind for a moment: </p><p></p><div style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-style:italic;">It is really hard to get through life alone.</span></div><div style="text-align:justify;"><br></div><p></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Now, invert that thought: </p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-style:italic;">I have the power to be present for others.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Yes, as a human being, your cooperation will almost 100% make life easier for those who are living and working around you. Just think about that. Let it settle. Feel that responsibility</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:700;">YOU have the power to make life easier for those around you and by NOT cooperating with them, you will most definitely be making life more difficult for them. </span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">If you state that you believe in something, if you state that you are a good person, if you state you want to get good grades, or do well in a project, but you are unwilling to cooperate with the people that have the same dreams, or are there supporting you – you are being false to yourself and &nbsp;to them. You are essentially stunting forward motion, quality, and success.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">We have all felt the frustration of making a group decision to get something done and then certain people don’t step up and take up their share of the load. Its discouraging and hurtful. <span style="font-weight:700;">On the other hand</span>, let’s not kid ourselves, none of us are perfect, &nbsp;we have all been the person who doesn’t pick up their share as well. So what can we do to stop this? How can we make choices towards constructive cooperation?</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:700;">The definition of cooperation is</span>: <span style="font-style:italic;">the action or process of working together to the same end.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:700;">1</span>.<span style="font-size:7pt;">&nbsp; </span>Do you have a clear idea of what that goal is. Have you discussed and agreed with your family, peers, or co-workers and come out with a clear understanding of what you all want to achieve. A lot of the time dysfunction is a result of miscommunication.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:700;">2</span>.<span style="font-size:7pt;">&nbsp; </span>You want to ask yourself, “Do I really want to achieve the same goals as these people?” If the answer is ‘no’, you probably need to have a rethink about your place and priorities in life. If the answer is ‘yes’ move on to the next point.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:700;">3.</span><span style="font-size:7pt;">&nbsp; </span>(This could be the most challenging point so brace yourself), identify areas of weakness in yourself. For example – when it is time for YOU to pick up the slack, what is it that makes you want to procrastinate? Is it laziness? Is it a bad attitude towards someone? Do you not feel ready to take on the task? Are you trying to move the work away from the common goal for selfish gain? If you truly want to encourage environment of cooperation, you need to be constantly checking your own heart and integrity.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:700;">4</span>.<span style="font-size:7pt;">&nbsp; </span>Finally (and this should be after you’ve addressed you own issues), you need to confront those who are not pulling their weight. Part of being cooperative is knowing when you need to intervene to help your those around you. It’s easy to get mad and blow a fuse at someone, but before you do that – take a closer look. Think of the times when you felt discouraged, or lazy, or out of your own depth – then approach them with suggestions on how they can move towards productivity. Let them know you see what they are not doing – but give them opportunity and space to grow.&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p><span style="color:inherit;"></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Cooperation is about working together for a common goal, but it is also something that the individual needs to believe in, and encourage. As part of a family, classroom, or team – you have an individual responsibility to promote a cooperative attitude. If you are in a position of authority be the example – communicate well, check yourself, approach those you are concerned about (with grace). If you are &nbsp;someone who is in a place of instruction, listen – follow the advice of those who are being a GOOD example, do the best that you can in your chores, or studies, or work.&nbsp;</p></div>

If you are feeling hopeless, you&nbsp;aren’t&nbsp;alone. So many Biblical figures also lost hope for a time—look at Elijah, curled up in his cave.&nbsp;</span></span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:700;">But how did things turn around for those people? And how can it turn around for us now?</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Well, the first step is<span style="font-weight:700;"> humility</span>.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">One of the main reasons we feel helpless and hopeless is because we rely on our own strength.&nbsp;<span style="font-style:italic;">And you know what</span>, some of us are pretty strong. We can go for weeks motoring through, filling our time with goals, strategies, and educated guesses. However, sooner or later, we run out of steam.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:inherit;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">God,&nbsp;on the other hand, never runs out of steam. He is the creator of the world, and creator of endless possibilities. He is&nbsp;all-encompassing, all-knowing, all-powerful, the source of life, Lord of the past and future, as well as the here and now.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:inherit;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">So when our circuits are fried, and our monthly plan is looking like a monthly fail, we need to take the hint, let go of the thread we are hanging by, and trust in the One who can see the whole picture—<span style="font-weight:700;">God</span>.&nbsp;</span></span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">When things were unpleasant for people in the Bible, we always see a turn around when they humbled themselves before God. Some of them, not mentioning names <span style="font-weight:400;font-style:italic;">*cough*David*cough*</span>, took a bit longer than others, but they got there eventually.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:inherit;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">The great thing about true humility is that peace often comes with it. Setting aside our frantic need to control, letting go, trusting the Father—all these things quiet the mind;&nbsp;then,&nbsp;in that place of peace, we can stop and listen for His voice.&nbsp;</span></span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:700;">And when we hear His voice, we must be obedient.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;">When someone tells you the truth, it is wise to listen and then act accordingly. </p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-size:11pt;color:inherit;text-align:center;">So many of us live under lies that undermine us—</span><span style="font-style:italic;">we are not skilled, we are not interesting, or we are not educated enough to make a difference.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="color:inherit;"><span style="font-size:11pt;">God does not lie to us, and He never will. His truth lifts us up to places we&nbsp;wouldn’t&nbsp;think we could ever reach. It tells us how precious we are when we feel devalued, it corrects us when we are wrong, it&nbsp;helps us to be optimistic when times are hard.&nbsp;</span></span><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-weight:700;">Do you see a pattern?</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Relying on our own limited strength, causes us to believe that we are limited in what we can achieve.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">However, <span style="font-style:italic;">humbling</span> ourselves before God gives us access to options we didn’t even know we had, through His truth and unfailing wisdom.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Stepping down from our high horse and asking God to lead us, and ACTUALLY listening to His instruction, allows us access to a bigger and better version of ourselves, and the world we live in. HE becomes our source of strength and hope. Like being plugged in, rather than running on batteries.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Just like those figures in the Bible, we can make a positive difference in our various spheres, by being humble, finding peace, hearing God, and obeying His perfect instruction.</p></div>
